The RFID lab of CATTID (Television and Distance Learning Techniques
Application Centre) at “La Sapienza” University of Rome, is
a laboratory devoted to the testing and integration of Radio Frequency
Identification Technology.
The RFID lab integrates skills from “Dipartimento di Controllo e
Gestione Merci” and their impact on the atmosphere (now “Dipartimento
per le Tecnologie, le Risorse e lo Sviluppo”) Faculty of Economy,
“Centro d’Eccellenza per i Trasporti e la Logistica” (Faculty of
Engineering) and Pictorial Computing Laboratory (Faculty of
Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences).
RFID-Lab has also established research relations with JRC (European
Union Joint Research Centre) of Ispra and it is in contact with others
laboratories of italian’s Universities (Genoa, Parma, Rome "Tor
Vergata", Rome "Valco S. Paolo"), to increase the competences and the
available resources. The aim of the Laboratory is to become a national
and international reference of research and integration, coordinating
skills and resources in the within of RFID technology. The laboratory
in fact not only takes care of RFID, but also of integration between
these technologies and others wireless technologies such as: Bluetooth
and Zigbee for PAN (Personal Area Network), Wi-Fi in the WLAN (Wireless
Local Network Area), GSM/GPRS in the WWAN (Wireless Wide Network Area)
and NFC (Near Field Communication).
