Push forward RFID in Europe
|
RFID is an outstanding key technology for Europe. European RFID users and vendors have launched the initiative "Coordinating European Efforts for Promoting the European RFID Value Chain" (CE RFID). CE RFID aims at improving the conditions of competition for RFID technology and its further development in Europe and at reinforcing the political environment of RFID at European level. The initiative contributes to the Working Group RFID/Logistics within EPoSS - the European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration. |
The opportunity is now!
Standards and radio regulations are the backbone of European RFID applications. The news service ICT Results discussed the findings of CE RFID on these topics with Peter Gabriel, spokesman of the project before the corresponding report will be published in the next weeks. The report which was written by FEIG Electronic, RF-iT Solutions and EADS maps the stakeholders and rules affecting RFID and provides ground rules for successful standardisation and radio regulations.

RFID Report 2008
The University of Freiburg and vdi-Nachrichten have created one of the largest studies regarding RFID so far. The RFID Report 2008 displays the great success of RFID in sectors where it is already in use. 102 RFID users have been available for a survey about the advantages of RFID technology today.
CE RFID to discuss RFID recommendations at European level
The draft reports of the workpackages on RFID R&D policy and RFID standardisation are now online to be read and discussed. CE RFID offers the chance, to actively participate in the project by commenting the reports and their recommendations. Stakeholders are invited to join the debate before the final reports on RFID standardisation and R&D policy are being published. The homepage grants access to the draft reports including the possibility to insert comments.
Update: The review process has now been closed. The project partners thank all reviewers for their valuable contributions. The final reports will be pubished in the next weeks.
AITPL publishes its Cluster Book
The new AITPL cluster book “New Technologies for the Intelligent Design and Operation of Manufacturing Networks” documents the results and perspectives of the projects of the AITPL cluster. It gives an overview of each single project and goes into detail about selected results that have been achieved by the projects.
Updated RFID Reference Model
The RFID Reference Model has been updated in order to structure the discussion on RFID and to allow depicting research results accordingly.

Cluster of European RFID projects outlines Research Agenda for RFID
|
At the international conference “RFID: Towards the Internet of Things” the 13 members of the “Cluster of European RFID Projects” (CERP) presented a common working paper on RFID research needs. The experts broadened the scope of the RFID technology roadmap: Equally important to the well-known hardware topics like polymer electronics and sensor networks are software and network aspects. Major challenges in these areas are data security and data integrity in large RFID networks as well as efficient data retrieval algorithms. Press
